In this Episode Brian shares a drink with John Boykin. From intern to owner. “Johnny Body” AKA “Freak Nasty”, John Boykin shares his interesting journey on how he went from being a two time college dropout, to wrestler, to owning B&H Insurance, a successful consulting advisory and insurance firm.
Motivated by his family and wanting to prove his 8th grade principal wrong who said he’d never amount to anything, John bet on himself and went “all in”. With no set definition of success, and wanting to make “X” amount of money by the time he reached the age of 30, John explains how success doesn't equal happiness.
Johns gives insight on how to build a winning culture within your firm, not being distracted by winning or losing, never having regrets, and if you think you can succeed at starting your own business, keep working for someone else. “Start your business when you know you can succeed.” All in or all out.
Johns also opens up and discusses how the hard work he and his team put in over the years allowed him to send his daughter to a private school where she was able to overcome her speech impediment. Being able to give that opportunity to his daughter was “without a doubt the most rewarding moment of my life.“
