Episode 1 - Carl Georigi | Platinum Dining Group
Considering himself a “lifer”, Carl found out as a teenager that he loved taking care of people and making them happy. He got his start at the Hyatt hotel in Cherry Hill, NJ in 1985 as a busboy when he was 16. Young, full of energy and ambition, yet naive and broke - Carl set a goal to have a restaurant by the time he was 30, and 1996 at the age of 29 he opened his own restaurant - Eclipse. Little did he know that when he opened Eclipse that it would lead him to Platinum Dining Group, a full service hospitality company that owns and operates 6 multi-concept restaurants, a full service special events/catering company and specialty retail markets in northern Delaware.
Carl explains how social media outlets can serve a common good in the industry, even after he’s been stung a few times - don't ignore the reviews Carl explains, sift through them and make adjustments. “ I’m not interested in being right, I just want to get it right” mentality and keeping his ego out of the way paved a path to his success.
Brian and Carl talk about his successful entrepreneurial leadership style - allowing his employees to feel empowered to make their own decisions and giving his team a sense of ownership is just one of the ways Carl gains success.
In this episode, Carl also reveals how he had to tell 407 of his employees, some who have been working for him for 20+ years, that they didn’t have a job due to the raging COVID-19 pandemic. “Is this the end?” Not for Carl Georgi!
